Microsoft has simplified the process with the latest Office iterations, but transferring a Microsoft Office or Office license is. Had a computer with MS Project Standard installed and activated. Computer now has dead motherboard. Cannot uninstall or deactivate MS. I bought MS Project MSO for one laptop and now need to move it to a different PC. Is that possible with this version of the software?

Vijay A. Verma Volunteer Moderator. When you login to your Myaccount, do you see MS project listed there? If yes, you can deactivate the license there. Leave computer ON with internet ON for an hour or two so that uninstall is detected by Microsoft servers. Then you should be able to install on new computer.

Ask a new question. Good, you have the product key. While the message you are seeing may be true, it is not the end of the line. There is no way to “deactivate” Office and earlier. The license term only require that the old installation is not usable, either by uninstalling, or by way of a “dead” computer.
You meet that term, so you can “transfer” the license to a new computer. You have to switch to phone activation. Select the phone option, when you phone in, try doing the automatic activation process.
If that fails, phone again and wait until you are given the option of talking to a live “service” rep. Explain the situation, they should allow the activation to proceed.
