Please ignore people that will tell you that you only need “common sense” to protect yourself. This is simply not true. There are 0-day exploits and other forms of malware and viruses that are simply unavoidable on the Windows platform even while using common sense and not browsing questionable parts of the internet.
Added bonus: I also use a freebie tool by Malwarebytes called Anti-Exploit. It’s quiet, runs light on the system and prevents out-of-date applications that you may have installed from being exploited by malware that uses said approach to infect your PC.
Avast and Malwarebytes are my tools. They both have saved my PCs in the past and they will do the same for yours. I highly recommend those tools to you. If you get Malwarebytes Premium, you get real time Anti-malware, antiexploit, antiransomware, and one other I can’t remember the name of. I do agree Kaspersky has good signatures, but it doesn’t have any behavior blocker which is critical for zero day and hour malware protection.
Wow, I was unaware that system watcher was not included in their free offering. I looked this up and you’re correct. Being that system watcher behavior blocker is one of the most important features of their paid antivirus, I think this will sway me to switch back to Avast free and deal with the notifications.
