Recommended Posts. SalfingerAndrew Posted November 5, Posted November 5, Hello, I was wondering if within Affinity Designer is there a “Free transform tool” to allow perspective distort with shapes, this is something that can be done within illustrator where you can take two points and can move them together or further apart with equal distance like the example below.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great day. Russ , ryon. With the help of a Free Transform tool, you can transform an image as follows:. Unlike Photoshop and other photo editors, Affinity Photo splits the functionality of the Free Transform tool in two and groups together the two-dimensional, respectively three-dimensional, transformations.
The Move Tool controls the two-dimensional transformations. The Warp Tool group, which includes the Mesh Warp and Perspective tools, controls the three-dimensional transformations.
Affinity Photo allows you to apply any two-dimensional geometric transformation by dragging control points or introducing numeric values in the Transform panel. To prevent you from ruining the original image, Affinity locks the Background layer by default. If you want to change the geometry of your original image, you have to tell Affinity to allow the alteration of the background layer.
Note : If you use the Free Transform tool with a different layer than the Background layer, skip this step. With the layer you want to modify selected, select the Move Tool or press V from the Tools panel to activate the Transform panel. The Transform panel contains the XY coordinates of the image inside the canvas, the width and height of the image, and the angles of rotation and shearing in the XY plane.
It also highlights the nine control points you can use to adjust the image, three on each side and one in the middle. The four corner control points allow you to resize and rotate the image.
The four middle control points let you resize and shear the image. When the Move Tool and a layer are selected, a context toolbar becomes active. It gives you the following settings to fine-tune the free transform:. The Mesh Warp and Perspective tools allow you to distort an image or part of an image using different methods. The Mesh Warp tool uses a customizable grid made of nodes and curve lines, while the Perspective tool uses fixed planes.
Mesh Warp tools produce destructive results. If you want to protect the original image, you have to work on a duplicate of the Background layer. Note : Skip this step if you use a different layer than the original one. The Mesh Warp settings come in the form of a context toolbar and include the working mode Source — lets you set mesh points; Destination — applies the changes to the image , options for restoring the original image Synchronize and original mesh grid Reset , options for displaying the grid, actions on nodes Delete Node, Covert to Smooth or Sharp , and resampling settings.
The default grid has four corner nodes. To add a new node to the grid, double-click within the grid. Two crossing lines will appear, dividing the grid once more. When you drag a node to introduce a distortion, Affinity applies the transformation to the part of the mesh adjacent to the node.
For example, if you add a node in the center of the grid and drag the bottom-left node, the program will apply the distortion only to the bottom-left quarter of the image. You can undo and redo each action you make within the Mesh Warp tool. Affinity got both a lot of attention and. April 27, Without this function, the program can only be used by artists. I work as a technical illustrator and wou. Posted in the other section but hopefully this is where we might get an update response.
Without it this software is unsuitable for many tasks and hoped it would have been included in the last release as so many have requested. This is an essential feature and I was really surprised when I learnt that it’s not available in AD. Please add it! Of course implementing it to Photo also would be nice. I work as a technical illustrator and would be happy to bury CorelDraw and Illustrator. Just like Affinity Photo has replaced Photoshop.
But unfortunately this is NOT possible without these functions. I’m looking forward to future updates and uninstall the actual designer demo again No vertical skew? No Distort, Warp, Mesh distort? These are all fundamental. This discussion goes back to , for crying out loud. What is going on with this??? I can’t believe we are still waiting for basic warping tools not to mention dare we dream an envelope tool and autotrace. It’s clear the Affinity team spread themselves too thin launching Publisher before finishing the basic feature set in Designer.
For the meantime. There is an affordable option that is maybe not so well known. But sorry its only for PC. Have a look at magix xara graphic designer , it has the tools you want and is a good vector companion for Affinity Designer.
Here is a Post from me, where I show some of its features. However, the point about the skimpy basic transform operations goes back to at least I was a beta tester in the late s for Freehand, and Fontographer before that! Well, thanks for the tip anyway! I bought Affinity Designer iOS because overall the design philosophy really seems to cover the bases I need. Being a letterform designer it works all the way up to the last 10m. I wonder if Affinity folks are just too overwhelmed to deal with the number of comments and requests.
Sorry that i forget to wrote that is PC only. For 10 Euros there is nothing to complain about it. Graphic for MacOS. But “Graphic” will be the better Vector App. Also Graphic app is almost abandoned and no longer being actively developed after bought out by Autodesk Mac has VectorStyler. Affinity got both a lot of attention and hype and went far beyond a critical mass of paying customers.
They are doing just fine. Wake up and smell the coffee! This is not a kickstarter. You are paying customers and remember that this company is decades old and made similar more mature software with these features until recently plus series.
Did so for many years. You don’t have these features because someone decided you shouldn’t. Or ever. You don’t know. It is all about business priorities and scaling. Designer obviously gets the least attention and features. I still don’t believe Serif has the vector expertise or the required number of developers with this expertise to push Designer further in bigger steps than we have seen tiny steps. I don’t see the evidence. Publishing software was always Serifs pet project and flagship product so lets see if Designer ever gets the love and features it needs to become more than a tool for digital painters bitmap.
